Kingdom  [A Root of Deep Discipleship]

Overview:

The Kingdom Root helps students understand how to live in the kingdom of God every day. When students embrace the kingdom life, they begin to look at the small things differently. They realize the weight that their decisions carry, and they can start to live by God’s value system instead of the world’s tainted values.

This content is digitally downloadable, and you’ll have it for life. Immediately after purchase, 100% of the content will be in your LeaderTreks account, and you can access it via the Deep Discipleship dashboard.

+5 Lessons

There are 5 Lessons in the Kingdom Root. Each lesson contains:
> Participant Guide (.pdf and .doc)
> Facilitator Guide (.pdf and .doc)
> Bonus Sermon (.doc)

What Makes These Lessons Unique?
The goal of Deep Discipleship is not only to teach students more about God; it’s also to help guide students into God’s presence, to show them how to engage with God and how to grow a deep relationship with him. So each Bible-based lesson (after the kick-off Intro lesson) is equipped with an Experiential Activity that allows students to tangibly interact with the core discipleship principle they are studying. Each lesson also includes: What the Bible Says About It (with discussion questions), A Second Look from culture or history (also with discussion questions), a Life Application that helps students identify one change they can make this week to grow, and Leader Notes with tons of background info, context, and help for those hard-to-answer questions!

Lesson Topics:
1) Kingdom Intro Lesson: This lesson introduces and sets the stage for the Kingdom Root. It’s designed to give students a framework for the next few lessons on what it means to live in the kingdom of God and how the rules in his kingdom are radically different than the rules of the world.

2) The Last Shall Be First: Why is it better to be last? Students will learn about how, in the kingdom of God, those who the world calls “last” or “the least” are actually first. Bible Passage: Matthew 19:30–20:16

3) A Kingdom Worth Dying For: What should I do with persecution? Life as a citizen of the kingdom of God is not always safe. When we share our faith and take risks for him, we will face persecution. In this lesson, students will be challenged to step out of their comfort zones in faith. Bible Passage: Luke 10:25–37

4) Revenge vs. Forgiveness: Why aren’t grudges worth it? In the Bible, God tells us to forgive and that vengeance belongs to him. Students will wrestle with the idea of forgiving those who hurt them—even their worst enemies. Bible Passage: Matthew 18:21–35

5) Flashy vs. Meek: What’s so bad about showing off? Students are inundated with the message that they must wear the latest fashions, have the newest phone, drive the best car, and have all the right friends. But the kingdom of God tells us to be meek and humble. Bible Passage: Luke 18:9–14

+Videos

Video is a key component to Deep Discipleship. When you purchase the Kingdom Root you receive the following videos:

> How It Works Video so you will understand what content is included, where it’s found, and what it’s for.
> Tips and Training Video for you and other adults facilitating the program.
> Animated Kingdom Overview Video is designed to show your entire youth ministry. You can also use it to inform parents and others in the church. Three formats are available (.mov, .wmv, .mp4).

+Sermons

We know that sermon prep can swallow up a lot of your time, so we’ve included four bonus sermons in the Kingdom Root. These sermons line up with lessons 2 through 5 of the study. (Because lesson 1 is an introductory lesson, no bonus sermon is necessary.) These sermons are Microsoft Word documents that can easily be edited to take out or add in whatever you’d like. They are biblically solid, relevant, and written for students.

+Media & Graphics

A comprehensive Media and Graphics pack helps you spread the word to the whole church and the youth ministry.

The Media and Graphics Kit includes:
> Deep Discipleship Logos
> Kingdom Root Logos
> Powerpoint Slide Images and Backgrounds
> Facebook and Instagram sized logos
> 11×17 Poster

+Parents

We realize that parents are the primary faith influencers in a young person’s life. The best disciple making takes place when students’ parents take the lead. That’s why we’ve created this helpful guide for parents to use at home with their child. It is designed to give them some basic information about what is being taught at church through the Deep Discipleship program, along with some helpful tools, suggestions, and questions to help them reinforce this learning at home.

We recommend that you give these guides to parents BEFORE you begin teaching the full content in your youth ministry. This way parents not only know what is coming next for their child, they can begin to engage with them and ask questions before they start going through the content.

More About Kingdom Root:

The Kingdom Root helps students understand how to live in the kingdom of God every day. When students embrace the kingdom life, they begin to look at the small things differently. They realize the weight that their decisions carry, and they can start to live by God’s value system instead of the world’s tainted values.

Simply put, the kingdom of God is wherever God is King. It’s not a specific place on earth or in heaven. It’s everywhere God reigns and his subjects honor him as their ruler. When you follow Christ, you acknowledge him as the Lord of your life. You call him King. At that point you begin living in the kingdom of God. In his kingdom, human logic doesn’t always compute. The laws of living are different, based on God’s greater wisdom. Jesus tells us that “the first shall be last, and the last shall be first,” and “riches” are more than just “money.” In God’s kingdom the least are priceless, peace trumps power, and justice wins in the end.
