Distinctive Elements: Over the past 15 years, thousands of students have field-tested our unique combination of Bible study, prayer and growth journalling, and evaluation. We know it works, and the result is spiritual growth, personal growth, and dramatically changed lives.
Bible Study Topic
Workouts in Jim’s Gym studies the book of James. Students get a workout as they wrestle with what the Bible has to say about some very practical things – controlling the tongue, living out our faith, caring for people equally. This study gives students specific ways they can be more Christ-like everyday.
Bible Study Methods
We intentionally use different Bible study methods throughout the book so students learn to view Scripture through a variety of lenses. Also, our goal is that students discover at least one method they will continue to use after the trip.
Prayer Journal
We’ve customized the ACTS method – Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication – for students by including a section where they record how God is answering their prayers. Our approach balances asking and listening.
Growth Journal
We provide a daily evaluation for individuals, as well as space for students to write their thoughts and feelings. This journal will be instrumental in helping students realize how God worked in their lives on the trip. Understanding that cements the trip experience into changed lives back home.
Evaluation Tool
Our Target Three evaluation tool encourages daily evaluation of the team which leads to improved effectiveness and greater unity. Students answer specific questions targeted to identify what the team is doing well and how they can improve.
Buying Tip: If you are taking a mission trip that is longer than 6 days, consider buying a two week devotional and encouraging students to finish the Field Guide after they return home.
