Sometimes people ask us why we love our job, and while we can answer that question in a number of ways, it truly comes down to one thing: youth workers. We LOVE getting to serve youth workers.
You see, I think youth workers are a rare breed. Something makes them stand out from the crowd. Something makes them easy to spot. Theyāre the kind of people you like to spend time with. And theyāre the kind of people you want to be like.
So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, here are
7 Reasons Iām Thankful for Youth Workers
#1 YOUTH WORKERS ARE INVESTORS
In a culture thatās incredibly protective of time and money, youth workers are investors. They invest their time. They invest their money. Every day they make sacrifices for the sake of furthering Godās Kingdom.
#2 YOUTH WORKERS ARE VISIONARIES
Most youth workers I meet are driven by impact. They have a vision of how they want to see students grow, and they have a vision for how to get there. They donāt just dream about how a student can serve Christ tomorrow; they dream about how a student can serve Christ with their life.
#3 YOUTH WORKERS ARE INNOVATORS
Youth workers are some of the most creative people I know. Whenever they face problems or challenges, they look for innovative solutions. They arenāt afraid to try something new or do something different. And in doing so, they have a way of breathing new life into struggling ministries.
#4 YOUTH WORKERS ARE ENTERTAINERS
Thereās no doubt in my mind that youth workers know how to have fun. They embrace the craziness that youth ministry often requires, but they find a way to balance the silly with the serious and the preposterous with the purposeful.
#5 YOUTH WORKERS ARE TEACHERS
Every discipler is a teacher, and I see youth workers as some of the most devoted teachers out there. They teach with their words. They teach with their actions. And they teach with their lives.
#6 YOUTH WORKERS ARE LEARNERS
No matter how many years of experience they possess, I always seem to meet youth workers who want to grow. They never walk around like theyāve got everything figured out; instead, they show great humility in asking others for wisdom and advice.
#7 YOUTH WORKERS ARE OVERCOMERS
Even more than the reasons above, Iām thankful that youth workers are overcomers. They navigate obstacles on a daily basis, and they press on even if it feels like nothing is working. By Godās grace, they wrestle through difficult seasons and transitions all without losing sight of the mission.
