Encouragement Done Right

student ministry, youth worker, youth ministry

Many of us in ministry don’t encourage people enough. When we do encourage most of our words don’t go far enough. Our encouragement tends to be general. For example; nice job, great work or Bob did a terrific job with the jr. high boys, way to go Bob. These encouragement are nice but they miss the mark. When we take our encouragement to the next level and get real specific with what people did well and why it makes a difference, people feel a real since of connection with us as leaders. They come to understand what is important to us and how their actions are living out our vision. This kind of encouragement challenges us as leaders. We need to think specifically about what actions our staff and followers are taking. We need to look deep into their lives and see the motivation and sacrifice they are giving. Then we need to stop the action and be specific and clear we our encouragement. Doing so will make a huge difference for our people.
