Mission Ready | Leadership Development + Service

Trip Type:

Mission Ready
Staff lead early in the week, gradually empowering students to lead meals, worksites, and a 3-day VBS

Why Here?

Georgetown is a historic coastal town. On the surface it’s a tranquil oceanfront community, but just a few miles inland you’ll find neighborhoods with poverty, broken families, homes in disrepair, and a deep need for hope and support. Students will partner with a local ministry to serve an impoverished neighborhood—combining physical service, relational outreach, and gospel ministry.

Lodging & Showers

Teams stay at a local host church:

  • Group sleeping areas
  • Fellowship space & kitchen
  • Areas for worship and debriefs
  • On-site parking for vans & buses
Facts About Georgetown
  • Population: 9,000
  • Demographics: 50.4% African American, 47.7% White, 1.8% Hispanic/Latino
  • Poverty: 21.9%
  • Famous for: The third oldest city in South Carolina, and a historic seaport along the hammock coast. Paper mills and timber have been a cornerstone industry of this city. This low country town is also the birthplace of Joseph Hayne Rainey, the first African American elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
What Students Will Experience
  •  A sharp contrast between affluence and poverty.
  • Bringing light and help directly where it’s desperately needed.
  • Serving a real community with tangible needs—families living in poverty, homes in disrepair, and limited access to resources.
  • Physical service projects combined with relational outreach and gospel ministry
  • Planning and leading a ministry (either a traditional VBS or a Senior Center VBS!)
  • Space to grow spiritually, develop leadership, and build community.
