What Are You Doing Here

By Doug Franklin November 17, 2009

Fear keeps us from so many opportunities. I believe fear is the number one problem I have. It keeps me from risks and it keeps me from living an abundant life. Too often I play a prevent defense. I love the question God asks Elijah when he is gripped in fear, hiding from Jezebel in the cave. God simply asks, “Elijah, what are you doing here?” Elijah must have thought to himself, what do you mean? Someone is trying to kill me, so of course I am hiding out. In reality, just like Elijah, I sometimes hide out when I could take a risk and trust God. I hide behind busyness or consistency, mainly because they make good excuses. The truth is we all need to ask ourselves, what are we doing here? Our purpose should lead us to risk and trust much in God. For if we are not taking risks, it’s possible we’ve lost connection to our purpose.
