Relationship Grows Leadership

We have all heard the saying, you can’t lead people unless they know you care about them. I believe this but I would take it farther. I think you show care by being authentically interested in someone’s life. I see too many leaders defining care as “I listened to their needs or I listen to them complain so they know I care about them.” That’s not care. Care is actually spending time discovering one’s strengths, interests and story. You can only show care by giving the relationship time and focus.

Try this activity: write down the names of people who you are leading in ministry. Next to their names write their personality strengths, three interests and how they came to know the Lord. If you can’t write these things, you need to spend more time with them to show you care because they probably don’t know it. If you can, awesome. Now challenge your team to do the same with each other.
