Go Experiential

We all want to be more effective teachers. Our goal is to have students internalize the truth we are teaching them. So why is it that we keep standing up in front of students and lecturing them, even though we know it does not work? How to do break away from traditional teaching methods and become more effective? The answer is clear:  we need to move to experiential teaching. We teach a principle and then allow students to experience the principle by DOING an activity to bring the principle to life. Why don’t more of us do experiential teaching? It’s obvious that experiential teaching takes more time, it’s messier and takes the focus off the teacher. Yeah, you read that last part right. Many of us teach because we like telling students stuff. We like being in charge and we like controlling the information. Great teachers allow the truth of a subject to be the star.
