Do You Know Your Personality Type?

By Doug Franklin August 9, 2018

Being a leadership mimic will never work for you (or your student leaders). Instead, every leader must have a working knowledge of their personality type.

Great leaders know themselves. When students try to be exactly like another leader instead of leading from their own personality, they will get frustrated and end up missing out on their full leadership potential. God has wired each student with unique characteristics that they can use to influence others. Students need to know themselves in order to be successful leaders.

“Being a leadership mimic will never work for you (or your student leaders).”

The Personality Type Assessment is a tool that will help students in this important journey of self-knowledge. Through this assessment, students will be able to name and understand the qualities that make up their distinct personality. They will rate value statements on a scale of “most like me” to “least like me”, concluding with a score that identifies with one of four Personality Types – Analyzer, Activator, Coordinator, or Connector. All four types are then verbally and visually defined to help students fully understand their personality type.

This resource is simple to use with students and has life-long impact on their leadership. Use it with other assessments as part of a “Know Yourself” series with the entire youth group. Use it to help your student leadership team understand who they are and how they then function well together. Or simply use it as an activity and discussion for a night of small group. With the included instructions, the assessment itself is simple to complete. It’s the conversation and applications following that can open doors a whole new level of understanding and leadership in the lives of your students.

By taking the Personality Type Assessment, students will:
•    Know themselves better.
•    Find joy in doing what God created them to do
•    Keep others from being miserable
•    Be largely successful in their leadership
•    Understand the strengths and weaknesses that come with their personality
