The Purpose Of Passion

By Doug Franklin July 1, 2013

Consider a new way of thinking about passion.  It’s more than an emotional connection with something or someone.  Passion is something you love to do.  It’s an intense driving desire.  It’s something that stirs you inside that you could do for hours on end and not get bored.  You feel God smiling down on you when you do it.  There are 3 important principles concerning passion.

1. Passion comes from God
Feeling God’s presence is a very important aspect to understanding your mission in life.  God didn’t design and create you to live an unfulfilled life.  He designed you to live with passion.  He has given you passions that will drive you.  These passions will cause you to expand your ideas of what you are capable of and will ultimately lead you to fulfilling your mission in life.  When you feel God smiling on you, you are in the sweet spot of life.

Never forget that passion is God’s gift to you.  He wants you to live a happy and fulfilled life.  The world is full of bored, unexciting Christians.  Christians like this do not inspire others to become Christ followers.  Living with God’s passion in your heart allows you to live life to the fullest.  Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  Living with passion is living with God’s gift in your heart.  It’s living as you were meant to be.

The amazing truth about passion is that it is personal and unique.  God has given you a unique passion.  He has wired you in a specific way and has given you a passion to match.  He has a plan for your life and a purpose for you in mind.  Your passion is unique.  You are the only one who has this unique combination of giftedness and passions.  You are a special creation of God designed for a specific purpose.  Never doubt your uniqueness!!!

2. Passion has a purpose
God doesn’t do anything on accident.  He has a purpose for every aspect of your life, from your personality to your family.  God has given you your passions for a reason.  He created you just the way He wants you.

You work best within your passion.  Working within your passion allows you to do what you are best at.  It allows you to work to your fullest.  Working within your passion will drive you to do everything with excellence, go above and beyond, and lead in ways you never thought possible.

Living within your passion also brings you joy.  We feel the most joy in life when we are doing what God created us to do.  By living within your passion you can experience the full life that God has for you.  This is the sweet spot of life.

3. Leaders find their passion
It is very important for you to find your passion.  It’s passion that will keep you going when you feel like you want to quit.  Living on a mission is hard work.  There are many obstacles to face.  Working within your passion will allow you to face those obstacles and overcome them.  It will keep you motivated.

As you start to discover your passions you will have a clearer picture of what God has in store for you.  Your passions are a gift from Him.  They motivate and inspire you.  They drive you to accomplishing your mission.  Never forget the power of passion in your life.
