Weave

By Doug Franklin March 29, 2010

Student leadership development is NOT another part of youth ministry. If you look at youth ministry like a pie, with slices named evangelism, discipleship, missions, mentoring, and community, I don’t think you should make a slice called student leadership. Instead the pie filling should be called student leadership. Every part of youth ministry is better when it’s led by students.

When we cut student leadership out as a slice of youth ministry, students and parents think it’s for special students. I believe that every student can be a leader. If we weave leadership development into every part of our ministry we will create a culture of leadership development. Students will see themselves as owners and the ministry will not be something for old people but will be for everyone.
